We all have so many fond memories attached to this 'chavanni' or 'nalakkane'. There were days when we used to get handful of toffees. If we go a generation back, this little coin was sufficient to fetch a basket-full of stuffs.

Longest Day of the Year

Today is the longest day of the Year. Am re-posting this post on this occasion

June 21st,the longest day of the year. This day marks the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere. That means this is the day of the year with the longest hours of daylight in the northern hemisphere and the shortest in the southern hemisphere.
Let us understand this in simple words.
Understanding Summer Solstice
The earth's axis is tilted 23.5 degrees from earth sun plane. Thanks to the tilt we enjoy the four seasons. For several months of the year one half of the earth receives more direct rays of the sun than the other half.

In summer solstice, the earth's tilt is towards the sun as we can see above. The sunlight strikes more directly to the northern hemisphere making the length of the day longer.
In winter solstice, the tilt is away from the sun and the southern hemisphere enjoys direct sunlight in their summer months. It falls on the December 21st in northern hemisphere which marks the shortest day of the year.

Recycled Art - Wall Hanging

Here is a quick and easy recycled art. A wall hanging prepared from few easily available things and things which find their way to dustbin.

Things required:

A piece from carton box
Thick sheet of paper of any color for the base.
Any glossy paper ( i have used the air tight pouch of Tea powder).
Transparent sheet to cover .
Scissors, cello tape, gum.

Procedure: (refer the pictures below)

1. Cut the carton to a size of your choice. You can cut as large as possible.
2. Cover it neatly with the thick sheet. I used black to complement the silver gloss
3. Now it is ready, to paste the design
4. Cut any of your favorite design or any abstract design as this one
5. Carefully paste the cut design and cover with the transparent sheet. Tag a hook at the backside and its ready to adorn your wall!!
